California Cancer Registry

The California Cancer Registry (CCR) is California’s statewide population-based cancer surveillance system. The CCR collects information on almost every cancer diagnosed in California.

The California Teachers Study collaborates with the CCR to receive up-to-date data on the cancer diagnoses of our participants, which allows us to examine the risk factors for different types of cancers among our cohort.

California State Teachers Retirement System
The California State Teachers Retirement System (CALSTRS) membership includes California public school professionals who teach, are involved in selecting or preparing instructional materials, or supervise persons engaged in those activities. All public school employees, ranging from kindergarten through community college, must pay into CalSTRS; they receive retirement benefits through CalSTRS and are CalSTRS members for as long as their retirement contributions are at CalSTRS.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) provides support for research and training needs for the cause, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The NCI has provided the California Teachers Study with support through a number of grants since the study’s inception.
